Jun 2009 - Nov 2010 I was an independent sales rep for Colorado-made yurts in Hawaii and hence created this blog. Since my 2008 decision to go for a yurt home office in the east rain forest of Big Island, I've experienced much to share.
The tropical climate is grand for yurt living, but like most places, building codes are totally frustrating. And although yurt makers provide excellent information, there are substantial limits to what they can advise in regard to permitting because the rules are different in every USA county.
That said, my consultation is primarily for tropical exterior/interior design with optional permit guidance on Big Island, Hawaii.
Honestly, if you are able to live off-grid and avoid those building inspectors, I congratulate you! There are so many options for economical power, plumbing and building materials. Design can be artistic as well as practical; it's always a joy to help.
So, if you've got questions about what kind of yurt to order and want honesty, shoot me an email and I'll reply asap.
With warm aloha,
